Sande and Bocook retire

Written by Svalbard Trek at 19:07 21/9-2019

Delmar Bocook and Sigurd Sande have decided to retire and we wish them the best for the future. They will remain part of the team for the time being, both having been given training roles.

Sande and Bocook have both been part of the most exciting part of our history and both contributed significantly throughout their time with us.

Sande first came to light by winning the first stage of the 31st edition of the Division 2 Cymru Taith tour. He fought hard for the jersey but ended up just over a minute down but took second overall. Sande would also finish in the top 10 on GC in the Volta ao Porto.

Sande would move to Trek during season 44 and he immediately took three wins. He narrowly came second in the Entrecasteaux classic in the same season, a race in which he would later finish sixth but never quite make the top step. His biggest achievements in Trek colours was when supporting Birch in his attempt to take the overall in the Odyssey of the Oryx. Sande claimed third in the stage 4 time trial as he suddenly found himself on the podium for GC. Unfortunately the final stage was simply too much and he slipped off the podium into fifth.

Since then he has been supervising Curtis Zerwe as he attempts to fill the boots of Sande and Bocook.

Delmar Bocook has also been a stalwart for the team since season 44, scoring 5 results since his arrival but putting in the hard yards for his leaders as he acted as the road Captain.

Both riders will be sorely missed on the road as their know how and abilities made them the natural fathers of the group. We have big boots to fill but will be looking out for more team members.
